Analysis from the results showed that nickel, iron and copper existed in high amounts in the slag with these elements found in the fayalite and chromite phases. Three mineral phases were detected namely; fayalite, chromite and sulphide. XRD analysis established that the sample contains >80% amorphous (non-crystalline material) material.

The result from beneficiation showed that the iron value could be enhanced to 63.9% with a yield of approximately 29.4% while decreasing the silica value to 8.2%. ... (wt%) charcoal at 900 W power. Fayalite, wustite and ferrite phases were also formed at ≥ 7 (wt%) charcoal. Austenite and martensitic phases were observed in optical micrograph ...
The iron resources in nickel slag were recycled by oxidation and magnetic separation. The effects of holding time, temperature, air flow rate and basicity on the crystallization of magnetite were investigated systematically. Moreover, the influence of particle size and magnetic flux density on the recovery and grade of iron during the magnetic …
In this process, coke or coal is used to reduce fayalite (Fe 2 SiO 4) in nickel slag, while producing iron and silicates; CaO is also added to improve the reaction rate by destroying the structure of the silicates.
Abstract The current study investigates the beneficiation of iron ore fines by the carbothermal process using muffle and microwave furnace. The muffle furnace reduction was found useful for the separation of iron-bearing phases from the quartz impurities and concentrate with iron purity of ~ 64%, recovery of 98%, and a yield of 84.5% is achieved at 900 °C, 9% …

It forms during the rapid cooling process in the production of copper. Compared with fayalite, the glassy substance contains a high content of SiO 2 and a low content of FeO. Both fayalite and the glassy substance are nonmagnetic and difficult to recover by beneficiation processes. Copper associated with sulfur presents as copper matte.
All of this transforms the fayalite into magnetite and accelerates the growth of particles of both copper matte and magnetite, hence improving copper and iron separation. …
According to the results of the mineralogical analysis, the primary phases in the copper slag were fayalite, and magnetite. The HSC Chemistry results on equilibrium phase …
Almost all of the iron is oxidized and present in the form of fayalite, magnetite, and magnetite, with other elements (silicon, copper, zinc, and aluminum) incorporated into its lattice. ... The possibility of improving the beneficiation performance of dump slags from Vanyukov furnaces and shaft furnaces using ultrafine grinding in bead mills ...
Thermodynamic analysis showed that CaO promotes the reaction between fayalite (Fe2SiO4) and O2. Phase diagrams of the FeO-SiO2-MgO-CaO slag with various CaO contents in an air atmosphere drawn by FactSage 7.1 …
The results showed that fayalite was completely decomposed into magnetite (58.8 wt%), hematite (21.6 wt%) and silica (19.6 wt%) at 1000 °C for 40 min under water vapor condition. Compared with the result obtained in dry air, water vapor could promote fayalite to transform into magnetite by decreasing oxygen fugacity.
Iron exists in the form of fayalite, a glassy substance and magnetite, and copper presents as copper matte and metallic copper. Approximately 82% magnetite and 70% copper …
The valuable metals copper and zinc were successfully recovered from a water-quenched lead smelting slag containing zinc in Gansu Province. This study focuses on the application of the direct reduction roasting-flotation process for extracting these metals from the slag phase. To comprehend the recovery principle of copper and zinc minerals in the slag …

As temperature lower than 1443 °C, the ∆G of forming fayalite is negative. The reduction temperature of fayalite is 764 °C. As temperature higher than 1000 °C, the reduction of chromite to Cr occurs and fayalite could be reduced to metallic iron. More important, the particle size of metallic iron grew to >100 μm from <10 μm as temperature.
The smaller amount of SiO 2 content might not promote the fayalite formation. However, Li et al. [15] reported that the addition of sodium sulfate could suppress the formation of fayalite ...
Reduction roasting using conventional & microwave (MW) heating was attempted. Both routes yield iron concentrates with ~ 63–64% Fe at ~ 85% weight recovery. MW route is …

This study investigates upgrading of low-grade banded hematite quartzite iron ore (Fe ~31%). Conventional beneficiation was found to be futile. The susceptibility of iron phases to microwave exposure and their selective absorption assists in the liberation of iron values. Microwave exposure of coarse particles at 540 W for 10 min yielded a concentrate with Fe …
The syenites of Piranshahr pluton form homogeneous mesoperthite-rich rocks which are exposed over a large area (>30 km2). With >85% modal composition of feldspar and rare ferromagnesian minerals, the syenites are petrographically suitable for feldspar exploration. The chemical composition of the Piranshahr syenites (i.e., high Al2O3 and (Na2O + K2O)) is also …
The fayalite formation creates localized melt zones that form' hot-spots' for microwaves and enhances the heating rate and, consequently, the reduction kinetics.
